GEIndia is experiencing a new era in the LED lighting segment. “The domestic market is extremely value conscious and it looks for good quality at optimal prices. This makes the market interesting for us, and pushes GE to develop locally-relevant products. As the marketplace matures and the technology evolves there will be a demand for customised products. It implies that companies with a stronger focus on R&D, manufacturing etc, will have an edge over other players,” observes Harish Lalchandani, President and CEO – Lighting, GE South Asia.
Going forward, GE thinks that integration of intelligent controls with lighting will assume prominence in India. GE is creating an environment that uses technology to connect platforms and solutions, bringing efficiency to operations and creating new outcomes. Explaining on GE’s expansion plan in the LED lighting segment, Lalchandani says, “We are focusing on four areas at present. These are office space, roadways, signage and industrial. Importantly, all the four verticals have scope for retrofitting as well as new fixtures.”

Havells IndiaAccording to Havells the LED market in India is expected to touch ` 21.6 crores by 2020 on the back of the government’s decision to switch to LEDs for all street lamps and public space lighting.
“LED lighting technology holds tremendous potential to conserve energy on a larger scale as compared to conventional source of lights,” states Sunil Sikka, President, Havells India Ltd.
The future of LED lighting industry looks promising with the government taking up initiatives to replace conventional lighting with LED. “The LED industry is expected to grow five folds from its current size of ` 3,500 crores in 4-5 years,” he informs.
“Our LED business grew by almost 88 per cent and we witnessed a better demand for LED products in Q2FY16,” informs Sikka while revealing on the business achieved during last financial year.
Havells has a manufacturing plant located at Neemrana, Rajasthan which manufactures LED lighting fixtures, drivers and LED lamps. Also it has bought majority stake in Promptec, a Bengaluru-based company which is into manufacturing of LEDs and solar lighting.

Eveready Industries India LtdEveready has been in the business of LED products for the last 11-12 years and has established a comfortable position in the category as being the product that has offered maximum quantum of light per watt. Eveready has launched Super Bright LEDs that gives a light output of 120 lumens per watt. The fact that Eveready offers more lumens per watt basically translates to more light.
Eveready has already forayed into LED Batons and LED Panels. Amritanshu Khaitan, Managing Director, Eveready Industries India Ltd informs, “Eveready has been selling the LEDs with highest lumens per watt, making Eveready LEDs the brightest in the country and has yet again come out with a new range of LEDs which are ahead of its time. Now Eveready has launched  Super Bright LEDs  giving 120 lumens per watt light output. This  also allows consumers of Eveready LEDs to buy lower watt LEDs to get same amount of light as given by  ordinary LEDs  with lower lumens per watt thereby making Eveready LEDs more energy efficient as well.”

Anchor Electricals As of FY 2014-15 Anchor’s total turnover was approximately ` 1,900 crores. The company has grown by more than 150 per cent in the LED lighting segment in financial year 2015-16.
Speaking about company’s order booking Yoshiyuki Kato, Director Lighting, Anchor Electricals states, “Our plan and aim is to grow better than previous year and as of now there is a slight slowdown in the momentum. We are optimistic to achieve our aim with the positive sentiments in the market for future growth of the business. Further, being a trade based company order inflow is regular from the trade partners and these are shaping up well as per our plans. We are looking at business picking up with various initiatives declared by the government such as all street lighting being changed to LED etc.”
Anchor is presently studying the evolution and demand situation of LED’s in India. While the country is poised for an aggressive growth in LED, the market is unstable in terms of price-points and trends. “We ventured in the LED products in late 2013 for residential premises.  In 2014-15, we forayed in the trade, commercial, professional, and architectural luminaires and this year we may introduce our first range of products for industrial and landscape segments along with new offerings for trade segment as well,” informs Kato.Yoshiyuki Kato, Director Lighting, Anchor ElectricalsThis year we may introduce our first range of products for industrial and landscape segments.

The company currently manufacture and sell its products under the umbrella brand  HPL, which has been registered in India since 1975.
“We seek to utilise our R&D capabilities to develop new products, particularly lighting equipment, has the highest profitability margin amongst the products that we manufacture and supply,” states Gautam Seth, Joint Managing Director of HPL Electric & Power Ltd.
The LED market expected to grow significantly, at a CAGR of 62 per cent during the corresponding period. “We seek to capture this growing demand for LED lamps and introduce a range of LED lamps for different end-use segments,” informs Seth.
DRHP states HPL manufacture a wide range of LED lamps including down-lighters, luminaires and CFLs at varied wattages “We provide our customers energy efficient indoor commercial and domestic luminaires with superior design. Our lighting products are suited for use as task lighting, which is intended to be functional and concentrated, such as reading, and for accent lighting, which is intended primarily for decorative purposes. Our LED lamps have been certified to be in conformity with the Indian Standard Index by the BIS, states Seth.
HPL lighting products are sold under the brand HPL and its street lighting is sold under the sub-brand Pathlite.
HPL, in the past, secured and executed several contracts from various Governmental Agencies for supply of Lighting products.
