“Odisha is going to be the ‘power house’ of the country within a few years from now, given the fact that the state alone is endowed with about 27 per cent of nations coal reserves,” emphasised J. G. Kulkarni, President, IEEMA in his welcome address. “As the state is going to have installed capacity of more than 40,000 MW within coming 5 years, I hope that Odisha is going to be a major market for the electrical and power equipment industry. “While taking about power scenario and opportunities of electrical industries, P. K. Jena, Energy Secretary, Odisha, said, “Odisha was a power surplus state till 2009, but over the last three years it has slipped into a deficiency due to major hydro failure. In the transmission sector, the state has invested Rs.7,500 crore and with the need to transport 3,500 MW across the state, we expect to invest an additional Rs. 7,500 crore. There are enough opportunities in Odisha, and we warmly welcome you.”
