3,000 government buildings in Maharashtra to become ‘energy efficient’

Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) signed an agreement with PWD, Maharashtra Government to retrofit lighting and cooling appliances in 3000 buildings with energy efficient in presence of Chandrakant Dada Patil, Minister of PWD and Revenue, Maharashtra Government. The agreement was signed by Ajit Sagne, Secretary (Buildings) PWD, Maharashtra and S. P Garnaik, CGM Techinical under the buildings energy efficient programme implemented by EESL, a JV under the administrative power of Ministry of Power, Government of India.

Under the agreement with EESL will bear the entire up-front investment of about Rs 307 crore. PWD of Government of Maharashtra will pay EESL from the savings they accrue in their electricity bill over a period of 5 years. EESL under this intervention will install about 26,500 energy efficient air conditioners, 1.1 million LED lights and 2,50,000 ceiling fans resulting in about 120MU saving – which is about 48 per cent reduction from baseline consumption. The cost savings on electricity bills out of the initiative is expected to be Rs 115 crore annually.

Speaking on the occasion Chandrakant Dada Patil said, “I am pleased to see that various state government departments are coming forward to adopt energy efficiency and help India keep a check on the energy consumption. I take this platform to invite other state governments and departments to adopt energy efficient practices and help India become truly energy efficient.”

S. P Garnaik, CGM, Technical EESL said, “This is a momentous day for EESL. We take pride in partnering with PWD of Maharashtra in their effort to adopt energy efficiency. Through the Buildings Energy Efficiency Programme we want to bring in uniformity and obviate the need for state/central governments to allocate capital expenditure for building upgrade.”
