Ministry of Renewable energy aims for 500GW from non fossil sources by 2030

In line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s announcement at COP26, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is working towards achieving 500 GW of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil sources by 2030.

So far, a total of 172.72 GW of capacity from non-fossil fuel based energy resources has been installed in the country as of October 31, 2022. This includes 119.09 GW of renewable energy, 46.85 GW of large hydro, and 6.78 GW of nuclear power capacity.

The Ministry is implementing the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for the National Programme on High Efficiency Solar PV Modules to achieve manufacturing capacity of Giga Watt (GW) scale in High Efficiency Solar PV Modules with an outlay of Rs. 24,000 crore. This scheme provides a production-linked incentive (PLI) to the selected solar PV module manufacturers for five years post-commissioning, on the manufacture and sale of high-efficiency solar PV modules.

The scheme is being implemented in two tranches.

Under Tranche-I, letters of award have been issued to three successful bidders in November or December 2021 for setting up 8737 MW of fully integrated solar PV module manufacturing capacity, which involves setting up manufacturing units for polysilicon, ingots and wafers, cells, and modules.

Tranche-II scheme guidelines were issued on September 30, 2022, and a Request for Selection (RfS) was issued on November 18, 2022, for the selection of solar PV module manufacturers to set up manufacturing capacities for high-efficiency solar PV modules in India. The Tranche-II envisages the addition of new fully or partially integrated solar PV module manufacturing capacities in the country with an investment of around Rs. 94,000 crore and will generate direct employment for around 1,95,000 persons and indirect employment for about 7,80,000 persons.
