NHDC develops solar projects and produces green energy, making MP green

NHDC to construct a 525 MW Pumped Storage Power Project near Indira Sagar, Khandwa, to meet peak hour energy demand in Madhya Pradesh.

Narmada Hydroelectric Development Corporation Ltd. (NHDC Ltd.) is building a 525 MW Pumped Storage Project at the Indira Sagar Dam in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, utilising the Indira Sagar Project’s existing reservoirs, Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar.

The project is being undertaken with the goal of increasing the state’s peak hour demand in mind. The additional renewable energy provided by this pumped storage project can meet the state’s energy needs during peak energy hours (morning and evening). During peak hours, the plant will generate 1,226.93 million units of energy.

The project is estimated to cost Rs. 4,200 crore. The Department of New & Renewable Energy, Government of Madhya Pradesh, has allotted this project to NHDC Limited.

The state of Madhya Pradesh has the capacity for 11.2 GW of pumped storage projects. In the Khandwa district, two NHDC Limited power facilities, Indira Sagar Power Station (1000 MW) and Omkareshwar Power Station (520 MW), are currently operational. The state of Madhya Pradesh receives 100 percent of the power generated by these power stations.

NHDC intends to make the state green by producing green energy and building solar power projects. The construction of an 8 MW solar project in the historic city of Sanchi, as well as an 88 MW floating solar project on the Omkareshwar Reservoir, is in progress. NHDC Ltd. is a joint venture of NHPC Ltd. and the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
