NTPC wins 80 MW floating solar projects in Madhya Pradesh

Emerges successful in competitive bidding for Omkareshwar Reservoir project, strengthening NTPC’s leading position in renewable energy

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited has emerged triumphant in securing the rights to develop an 80 MW floating solar power project situated at the Omkareshwar Reservoir in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. This feat was accomplished through a competitive bidding process held on August 8, 2023, orchestrated by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL), a dynamic collaboration between the esteemed Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and MP Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. The resultant tariff, standing at a commendable ₹3.80/kWh, has been established for the energy generated by this project, which is destined to serve the electricity demands of Madhya Pradesh’s state distribution companies (DISCOMs).

This achievement propels NTPC’s floating solar portfolio to an impressive cumulative capacity of 342 MW. It’s noteworthy that the most substantial floating solar initiative currently operating in the country is situated at NTPC Ramagundam in Telangana, boasting an impressive 100 MW capacity.
