L&T to construct 1800 MW solar plant in Dubai’s largest solar park

Alongside the photovoltaic plant, the project encompasses related evacuation and interconnection arrangements, including two gas insulated substations, high-voltage underground cabling, and medium-voltage distribution networks.

Larsen & Toubro’s Power Transmission & Distribution business has selected its Renewable EPC arm as the turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction contractor for establishing a 1800 MW ac solar photovoltaic plant in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This project marks the sixth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai. The plant is anticipated to reduce approximately 2.4 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Spanning over 20 sq km, the project will be operationalised in three phases. Alongside the Photovoltaic plant, the project encompasses related evacuation and interconnection arrangements, including two gas insulated substations, high-voltage underground cabling, and medium-voltage distribution networks. Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, a leading clean energy entity in the UAE, has inked the Power Purchase Agreement with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) for project development. DEWA will maintain a 60 percent stake in the project and serve as the sole off-taker of the generated power. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, slated to be the largest single-site solar park globally under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, aims for a production capacity of 5,000 MW by 2030. Upon completion, it is poised to mitigate over 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. The Solar Park holds significant importance in both the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and DEWA’s strategic initiative for achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
