Partnership underscores commitment to renewable energy goals, bolstering India’s sustainable energy trajectory.

SJVN Limited, in collaboration with its wholly owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), has recently entered into a Power Usage Agreement (PUA) with Jammu & Kashmir Power Corporation Limited (JKPCL). According to the terms of the PUA, SGEL is set to provide 300 MW of Solar Power capacity to JKPCL from the ongoing construction of the 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project situated in Rajasthan.

Geeta Kapur, the Chairperson & Managing Director of SJVN, shared insights into the Bikaner Solar Power Project, emphasizing that it is currently under development by SJVN through SGEL under the CPSU Scheme of IREDA, incurring a total cost of ₹5,491 crores. Notably, the project is progressing under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) mode and is scheduled for commissioning by July 2024. The power generated from this initiative will serve government entities, either through direct consumption or distribution via discoms.

SJVN, recognised as a prominent player in the power sector as a Central Public Sector Unit, is dedicatedly working towards realising its collective vision of reaching a capacity of 25,000 MW by the year 2030 and further expanding to 50,000 MW by 2040. This shared vision aligns seamlessly with the Government of India’s commitment to achieving 50 percent of its energy generation from non-fossil-fuel-based resources by 2030.

The Bikaner Solar Power Project, a pivotal undertaking in this pursuit, holds strategic importance as it not only contributes to SJVN’s ambitious capacity targets but also adheres to the principles of the CPSU Scheme of IREDA. The emphasis on the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) mode signifies a commitment to utilising indigenous resources, fostering sustainability, and supporting the nation’s self-reliance in the renewable energy sector.

Geeta Kapur’s announcement underscores the significance of this collaboration with JKPCL through the Power Usage Agreement, solidifying SJVN’s commitment to supplying clean and sustainable energy to government entities. As the Bikaner Solar Power Project progresses towards its commissioning in July 2024, it stands as a testament to SJVN’s dedication to driving the transition towards non-fossil-fuel-based energy resources, contributing to the national goal of a greener and more sustainable energy landscape by 2030.
