The PSU will collaborate with ASHVINI (Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Limited) and NPUNL (Nuclear Power Utility of India Limited) to achieve its goals.

NTPC, is taking a significant leap in the nation’s energy transition journey by venturing into the atomic power sector. Through its collaboration with ASHVINI (Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Limited) and the formation of NPUNL (Nuclear Power Utility of India Limited), NTPC is targeting the development of 2 GW of nuclear energy capacity by 2032. This strategic move marks a transformative step towards diversifying India’s energy mix with cleaner and more sustainable sources.

As the first Indian energy company to declare its Energy Compact goals at the United Nations High-Level Dialogue on Energy (UN HLDE), NTPC has showcased its firm commitment to sustainable development and climate action. With a clear roadmap to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070, NTPC is aligning its long-term vision with national and global climate goals. The inclusion of nuclear energy, a reliable and low-carbon energy source, plays a critical role in achieving these ambitious targets.

By adopting nuclear energy, NTPC is not only supporting the nation’s commitment to reducing dependence on fossil fuels but also reshaping the future of India’s power sector. Nuclear power offers a stable, large-scale, and round-the-clock energy solution, which is essential for meeting growing electricity demands while minimising environmental impact.

This foray into nuclear energy complements NTPC’s ongoing efforts in expanding renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, thereby fostering a balanced, secure, and clean energy future for India. It also reinforces NTPC’s role as a leader in driving economic growth through sustainable infrastructure development.

In essence, NTPC’s expansion into nuclear power represents a bold step toward a greener, more resilient energy ecosystem—one that promises to empower future generations while addressing the urgent challenges of climate change and energy security.
