The Ministry of Coal has successfully auctioned seven coal blocks for commercial mining, marking the 12th round of auctions. The auctions, which concluded on July 31, 2025, were marked by fierce competition and yielded an average revenue share of 26.70 percent.
The Ministry of Coal announced the successful auction of seven coal blocks for commercial mining, following the 12th round of auctions launched on March 27, 2025. The Ministry’s transparent policy framework was praised by industry interest in the forward auctions, which concluded on July 31, 2025.
Three of the seven blocks successfully auctioned are fully explored, while the remaining four are somewhat explored. These blocks have geological reserves of about 1,761.49 million tonnes and a total Peak Rated Capacity (PRC) of 5.25 million tonnes per year (MTPA), according to a coal ministry release. The auctions were marked by fierce competition, yielding an exceptional average revenue share of 26.70 percent.The newly auctioned blocks are expected to generate an annual revenue of ₹719.90 crore for state governments, attract ₹787.50 crore in capital investment, and create 7,098 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
