Sembcorp brings STEM labs and solar power to 5500 rural students

Sembcorp, in partnership with MASTER Interactive Sciences has set up fully equipped Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) labs in 10 government schools across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.

Sembcorp has launched a transformative education initiative to uplift students in underserved areas. Based on a needs assessment conducted in communities surrounding its project locations the initiative aims to strengthen learning outcomes and open new opportunities for students through access to quality education.

In a significant boost to rural education, Sembcorp, in collaboration with MASTER Interactive Sciences has set up fully equipped STEM labs in 10 government schools across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.

Targeting students from Classes 5 to 10, the initiative focuses on sparking scientific curiosity and building stronger learning foundations through experiential, hands-on education. Each lab features over 80 interactive models designed to simplify core science and math concepts, making them more relatable and engaging.

“The STEM lab at our school has been a big difference. It has created a lively learning environment where students can try out experiments and enjoy learning science. It’s making a real impact beyond the classroom too,” shared a teacher from participating schools.

This initiative complements Sembcorp’s broader education-focused efforts, including the solar electrification of six schools in Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh carried out earlier this year. The project brought reliable electricity to classrooms, supporting uninterrupted academic activities and benefiting 2,500 students across various rural schools.

One of the students shares, “Now that we have a STEM lab, we feel more confident about learning science. It helps us understand tough topics easily and makes learning fun.”

By integrating practical learning tools with traditional classroom teaching, the STEM initiative has already impacted more than 3,000 students, equipping them with the skills and confidence to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Together, Sembcorp’s STEM and solar electrification programs have positively touched the lives of more than 5,500 students, contributing to a stronger educational foundation across various regions. This effort marks a significant step in bridging the urban-rural education divide and preparing young learners for a knowledge-driven future.
