Compaq International is setting up the COMPAQ Training Academy, which will offer structured certification programmes for 11 kV to 66 kV systems.
Compaq’s heat-shrink and cold-applied terminations, joints, and separable connectors, rated up to 72.5 kV, are designed to provide dependable insulation, sealing, and stress control. PP Singh, Director of Compaq International, discusses the adaptation of the cables and cable accessories sector in India to support large-scale integration of renewable energy.
India has surpassed 242 GW of clean energy, achieving its 2030 target five years ahead of schedule. How is the cables and cable accessories sector adapting to support large-scale renewable integration?
This achievement is a source of pride for the nation, but it also creates new demands for the cable and accessories industry. Renewable projects are often established in challenging environments – whether deserts, coastal regions, or remote rural areas – and their accessories frequently face the highest levels of stress. A weak joint or termination can affect the reliability of the entire system.
We focused on developing solutions to perform in these conditions. Our heat-shrink and cold-applied terminations, joints, and separable connectors, rated up to 72.5 kV, are designed to provide dependable insulation, sealing, and stress control. The sector is moving in a clear direction: accessories can no longer be treated as secondary components. They are the backbone of reliable renewable integration, and we are proud to be part of that journey.
How is India’s cable accessories industry innovating to meet offshore wind, nuclear, and green hydrogen demands?
These emerging sectors are opening new frontiers for our industry. Offshore wind demands accessories that can resist salt, moisture, and continuous mechanical stress. Nuclear projects need materials that can withstand radiation and last for decades. Green hydrogen will require highly reliable sealing and insulation against new stresses.
The Indian industry is preparing for the future through innovation in materials and design, and our R&D team is working on advanced elastomers with superior tracking, erosion resistance, and stress-control technologies. We are also investigating how sensor-based accessories can help monitor performance in real-time. The idea is to adapt existing products and create solutions purpose-built for future applications.
How are Indian cable accessory manufacturers reducing their dependence on imports and gaining global recognition in medium-voltage systems?
Over the past decade, India has made significant progress in reducing its dependence on imports, particularly in the medium-voltage sector. Manufacturers have invested in in-house material compounding, moulding, and testing. We control every stage of production, from raw materials to finished accessories, and validate our products at international laboratories such as KEMA, CPRI, ERDA, and GCC.This independence gives Indian companies quality and cost advantages. Supported by the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, more utilities are now trusting indigenous brands. Our approvals in parts of Europe, the Middle East, the MENA region, and North Africa are proof that Indian manufacturers can meet and exceed international standards. The next challenge is to strengthen our position in high-voltage and extra-high-voltage systems, and we are working in that direction.
How is rising demand from urbanisation and renewables reshaping customer expectations for cable accessories in India?
The demand has grown consistently due to urbanisation, metro rail networks, underground cabling, and renewable energy projects. The way customers look at accessories has changed. Earlier, price was the deciding factor; today, the emphasis is on long-term reliability, safety, and compliance with international standards.
We are well-positioned for this shift. We offer a comprehensive product portfolio encompassing heat-shrink, cold-shrink, and separable connector technologies, with ratings up to 72.5 kV. Our key strength is in materials. We design our own elastomers, mastics, and stress control compounds. By combining this with global type tests and strong customer support, we are positioned as a trusted partner for utilities and EPCs who want assurance of reliable networks.
How is COMPAQ supporting utilities and EPCs in adopting advanced installation and maintenance practices?
The best-designed accessory can fail if it is not installed properly, and we have a strong focus on training and skill development. We regularly conduct hands-on training sessions for utilities and EPC contractors, where teams are guided on proper installation techniques, stress control, and sealing practices.
We are also setting up the COMPAQ Training Academy, which will offer structured certification programmes for 11 kV to 66 kV systems. Our on-site technical response teams provide support during critical projects, ensuring customers have confidence in their installations. By combining reliable products with knowledge transfer, we are helping create a stronger and safer ecosystem for India’s power networks.
