Welspun Energy Ltd. (WEL) has commissioned a 20 MW wind power project in Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan. Developed within three months, the project uses ten wind turbines for generating an average annual net production of 43.1 GWh, with a capacity utilisation factor (CUF) of 24.2 per cent. Welspun Energy Solar Rajasthan Pvt. Ltd., a fully owned subsidiary of the company had signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Ltd. Speaking on the occasion, Vineet Mittal, Co-Founder & Managing Director, Welspun Energy, said, “We are committed to ‘electricity for everyone’ and this need gap can sustainably be closed by increasing investment in renewable energy projects. Welspun Energy is committed to securing the energy future of the country. We are working towards developing additional 1.4GW capacity projects across the nation with wind projects playing a major role in them. Our commitment coupled with increasing reliability and performance of wind turbines is helping us contribute to nation’s energy security agenda.”With this project, Welspun Energy has commissioned over 80 MW capacities of clean energy projects in Rajasthan. WEL is currently developing twin 100 MW wind projects in Karnataka and Rajasthan. According to the company, its 55 (DC) MW located in Jodhpur district is India’s largest solar project to date and has the distinction of being the fastest executed mega solar project. This is one of the highest generating projects in the country and has touched a DC capacity utilisation factor (CUF per cent) of 26 per cent.
