Biogas is produced when organic matter such as household food waste, plant matter, or industrial waste decomposes in the absence of oxygen. This may take place in an anaerobic digester to produce biogas. Biogas is primarily a mixture of methane (about 70 per cent) and carbon dioxide (about 30 per cent). The complete biogas production process involves gas creation, cleansing, storage, and ultimately, the use of biogas as a fuel source for heating or generating electricity.
The Sage Biogas TMFM serves an integral part for the safety of this process, whether involved with food processing, fermentation towers, or slaughterhouses. Measuring biogas flow at several points in the system provides operators with critical information for optimal gas production, control and safety. Furthermore, many recovery systems comply with greenhouse gas protocols such as the organic waste project protocol and the KYOTO protocols, both of which require measurement of biogas. Such requirements include certified emission reductions, a credit system, and the clean development mechanism, which encourages investment in sustainable development projects to reduce emissions. Sage thermal mass flow meters help quantify the captured emissions by measuring the mass flow rate, even at very low flows, and by providing a very easy way to conduct the required periodic calibration field checks with its unique In-Situ Calibration procedure.
Sage metering is your source for monitoring, measuring and controlling the gas mass flow in ones  specific application. Sage’s high performance, NIST Traceable, thermal mass flow meters will help increase productivity and reduce energy costs.
What’s a Thermal Mass Flow Meter?Thermal mass flow meter is an instrument that measures the gas mass flow based on the principle of conductive and convective heat transfer. All flow meters have either insertion probes or in-line flow bodies which contain a pair of sensors which are in contact with the gas.
The flow sensor is self heated and the second temperature sensor provides a reference temperature of the gas. A constant overheat temperature is maintained between the two sensors. As the gas flows past the flow sensor the gas molecules carry heat away from the heated surface. The circuit varies the amount of power to maintain the desired overheat. The power required to maintain this overheat temperature is proportional to the mass flow rate. Sage metering manufactures award-winning Insertion and In-Line thermal mass flow meters for a variety of industrial, commercial, environmental, and municipal applications. Sage high performance thermal mass flow meters are built tough to withstand the demands of any application.
