Cochin International Airport becomes the first solar powered airport in the country
With the commissioning of 12-MWp photovoltaics (PV) plant, Cochin International airport limited (CIAL) becomes the first airport in the country which would be operating on solar power.
The PV panels laid across 45 acres near cargo complex at Cochin airport have the capacity to generate 50,000 to 60,000 units of electricity per day.  The generated electricity would be consumed for airport’s operational functions, which will technically make it ‘absolutely power neutral’.
