CleanMax Solar installed a 500 kWp rooftop solar plant on 2 acres of unused rooftop area across 6 buildings of the international airport. The plant is now fully operational and is designed to generate approximately 7,50,000 kWh power annually and will reduce the airport’s carbon footprint by 700 tonnes annually. The project happened in collaboration with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
“As a conscientious corporate we are cognizant of our responsibilities towards protecting the environment. This is an important aspect in the way we conduct our business and we have laid a very strong foundation for a sustainably-inclusive environment as part of our green growth vision for KIAB. Sustainability drives our airport operations. Adopting renewable energy is part of this green strategy and we are pleased to partner with CleanMax in enabling this vision. These rooftop solar plant have added to BIAL’s energy mix and we hope to achieve 40% of our energy needs through this project by March 2017. We are committed to exploring more opportunities to make KIAB a greener facility,” Hari Marar, President Airport Operations, BIAL..
The solar power plant at the international airport was installed in a very short time of 2 months, and will supply power at a significant discount to BESCOM tariffs. The plant will also reduce the air conditioning load in these buildings, by absorbing sunlight that would normally heat the buildings themselves. The rooftop solar power plant at BIAL is one of Karnataka’s 10 largest rooftop solar projects.
