Shilchar Technologies is into manufacturing of distribution and power transformer, specialised in catering to solar and wind industry. We are looking forward to providing services to host of sector like sugar, hydro power, steel etc. The company is in expansion process with a view of increasing capacity by four times. It has also established a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility with enhanced features in Jambusar, Gujarat. The current production capacity is 1,000 mVa per year and we aim to reach 4,000 mVa per year after the completion of expansion process. The company will be particularly focussed on expanding presence in existing sectors i.e. wind and solar. Along with this, we will also be focussing on diversifying our services to new sectors as well.

What kind of advanced technologies are you aiming to bring in the industry?
The company has developed an array of new technologies and products for the industry. We have developedtransformers withaluminium and copper foil which are already in use. We also have a hydraulic core lifting cable, oil filter machine with overhead storage tank for maintaining temperature of filtered oil. This ensures fast tanking after the ovening process so that minimum humidity is caught by the CCA. Oil filling on 100 per cent transformers will be done under vacuum. We also have an HVAC system which maintains positive air pressure and epoxy flooring in entire plant for dust free environment which improves the quality of transformers.

What’s your strategy to tap overseas markets with your technologies and products?
The company has good presence in countries like Middle East, North America and Africa. The business model of company stresses on focussing more on customers with need of high-quality. We have successfully been able to serve to this demands and generated good export numbers. The company works for a fix set of premium customers. We are majorly serving the EPC contractors for solar and wind sectors. Also, we are catering to many private distribution companies.

According to you, which sector will drive the progress of renewables in the country?
The government has imparted good support to solar and wind industry with ambitious power generation targets. Though, it targets 100 GW of solar installations in the country by 2022, but only around 16-18 GW has been achieved, so it’s a long way to go. This indicates a bouquet of opportunities in the renewables sector. Also, wind energy target is 60GW by 2022 when only 35GW has been installed so far.

What makes Shilchar Technologies transformers stand out compared to its counterparts?
The company stands by its design, which differentiates it from others in the industry. The transformers are designed with a view of making it cost-efficient and ensuring high quality. The manufacturing practises undertaken are aimed at manufacturing high-quality products with any compromise on parts of the transformers.

What are targets for upcoming five years?
The existing manufacturing capacity at the plant is 25 MVA-66 kV class transformers. With setting up of new manufacturing facility, we aim to manufacture 50 MVA-132 kV class transformers. We are in process of intensifying our presence in power transformers by growing the capacity and in size of transformers the company manufactures.
