JDS: Quality at its core
.

The distribution transformers manufacturer has set up Quality Management System to implement and maintain quality standards in all areas of operations.

The power and distribution transformer market in India is expected to reach
Rs 6,900 crore by 2022. The government’s initiatives towards strengthening the power transmission and distribution network will drive the demand for power transformer and distribution transformers.

India has surplus power generation capacity but lacks adequate infrastructure for supplying electricity to all needy people. In order to address the lack of adequate electricity supply to all the people in the country by March 2019, the Government of India launched a scheme called “Power for All”.

Together with ambitious power market reform, new transmission lines, and the expansion of distributed generation, these new policies are expected to speed up deployment for better power services, observes Vice President of JDS Transformers Ind. Pvt Ltd SG Banerji. However, he points out that the timing and implementation of the policy transition remains uncertain.

Product range of JDS Transformers
JDS Transformers Ind. Pvt Ltd, an ISO 9001-2015 certified company, is a renowned player in the field of distribution transformers. Today the company offers three-phase distribution and special type transformers, dry type Nomex transformer, oil-filled transformers with a wide range of internationally recognised standards. JDS has also designed and manufactured BIS certified energy efficient distribution transformers, level – 2 and level – 3 in various ratings, aluminium and copper wound distribution transformers. Commenting on the company’s quest for achieving manufacturing excellence, JDS’s Plant Head Prashant Tajne said, “In our quest to exceed the customers expectation by meeting their specified and implied needs at competitive prices and to ensure products and services of agreed quality on time every time, we are well equipped to manufacture various types of transformers.”

Quality management at core
JDS has set up Quality Management System to implement and maintain quality standards in all areas of operations. The company was awarded NABL Accreditation Certificate (ISO/IEC 17025: 2005) in 2017. Since then, the Quality Management System is periodically audited to match contemporary standards by trained internal auditors and external auditors. “At JDS, quality checks are mandatory at each phase of production. JDS testing department is equipped with a multitude of sophisticated testing equipment. Every product of JDS goes through stringent quality tests before reaching the customers,” said Mr. Tajne.

Competition strategy
Talking about how JDS has performed against competition in the market, the company’s Marketing Head Riyaj Sheikh said, “We at JDS evaluate and enhance the customer’s journey from end to end. We quickly respond to the market to meet new demands. Marketing, sales and services help businesses to sell products. Sales and services are inter-related. Team JDS consists of production, quality, stores, despatch, marketing, sales and services members and each member adds the strength in the growth.”

At JDS, marketing is not just door-to-door selling or advertising. For them, marketing is made up of 4 elements – product, place, promotion and price. “The ultimate outcome for marketing is when a successful exchange occurs. We at JDS offer high quality standard transformers building long term good relationship with customers. In fact, 80 per cent of our clients are repeat customers. We have kept our plant open for visits without formal invitation for our clients and electricity board officers. We feel that by visiting plants only, actual quality of product can be known. We have got good response with this principle and most of our orders are through references,” informs Sheikh.

Expansion plan
JDS Group has over 30 years of experience in supplying equipment for power sector. Revealing the company’s recent performance and future plans, Sheikh said, “Currently our year-on-year growth is more than 50 per cent. We are well-established in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. We have more than 500 satisfied customers in domestic market with customer base increasing every year. We will shortly start manufacturing of power transformers and expand our service and delivery to other states also.”

JDS at ELECRAMA 2018
JDS is a regular participant of ELECRAMA and this is its fourth-time participation. Even though JDS is a manufacturer of aluminium conductors, AB cable and aluminium wire rod for distribution and transmission line upto 1,100 kv since past 30 years, this time the company will be focusing in highlighting its new product base – distribution and power transformers.

“We have regularly participated in ELECRAMA to increase our client base, networking, learn about competition and now situation is – people expect us to be in every ELECRAMA,” says Sahaj J. Patel, Director, JDS Group of Companies.
