The new plant should be ready for production by July 2022.
Borosil Renewable, a part of the Borosil Group is investing ₹500 crores to double its capacity to 900 tonnes per day. According to a PTI report, the new plant should be ready for production by July 2022. This is the second doubling of its capacity in the past five years, after the ₹ 235-crore expansion in 2016.
Borosil Renewable currently has a capacity to produce 450-tonne of solar panel glass per day at its Bharuch plant. The company is the sole domestic manufacturer of solar panel glasses and is also protected from an anti-dumping duty on its only competition–imports, according to the report.
Currently, Borosil meets 40 percent of the domestic demand of 650-tonne glasses per day, while the rest is imported from China and Malaysia. The company also exports almost 20 percent of its present solar panel glass capacity to Europe, primarily to Germany, Spain, Portugal Russia and Turkey, and also the US.
