COSMA AWARD: Honouring the innovations and indigenisation in the electrical industry

Cosma was established in 1988 with four members. The main idea was to create healthy competition and friendly competitors by avoiding animosity.
Started by four eminent control panel builders, today only one of the four, Satish Kazi, the founder president and current chairman emeritus, is among us here.
Cosma has expanded to become an association for all of India, with over 400-panel builders as members.
The idea of the Cosmo Awards was initiated in 2013, with a grand convention in Mumbai. Thereafter, the awards function is celebrated every other year, alternately in Mumbai and Bengaluru. This year the function was held at Hotel Meluha, Hiranandani Garden, Powai, Mumbai, 400 076, and was hosted by Elmeasure India Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru.

Over 400 Cosma members and eminent representatives of various associations with whom Cosma has had long-standing relationships attended the event. Among those present were representatives from the association, including IMC, ECAM, EMA, and BIA, to name a few.
Cosma honours notable individuals with the following three awards:
COSMA RATNA: This award is to an individual who has served the electrical industry throughout his life as the head of an organization that he started from scratch and built to be an international organisation of repute. This year the award was given to Shri Kedar Singh Bhadauria of M/s. Powercam Electricals Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, is a manufacturer of quality insulators and busbar supports.
The COSMA Gaurav Award is given to an individual who has developed indigenous products with innovative ideas through hard work and intelligent applications for use by Control Panel Builders. This year’s award was given to Shri Ramani Mani of Bangalore. He is the founder of the Mani Group of Companies and also the Managing Director of M/s. Load Control Pvt. Ltd., a control panel builder of repute, and M/s. Modutec Industries Pvt. Ltd. is a ready-made panel manufacturer of modular designs that has revolutionised the concept of fabrication and powder coating of the housing of control panels. Modutec also exports 40 percent of its production to a large number of countries worldwide. They currently have over 100 control panel builders as customers.

COSMA SITARA: This award is given to an individual who has served many Controls Panel builders over his life. This year the award was given to Shri Vijay Patil of M/s. Legrand India, who has been supporting control panel builders through his various employers for 30 years. He has always made certain that control panel builders receive high-quality switchgear components on time. Through his efforts, he has ensured that the companies have maintained an excellent supply chain for all panel builders.

The event also saw the launch of the book published by Cosma titled “Uncommon Entrepreneurs Part 1,” a book featuring 10 business leaders from Cosma. The book is about the real-life stories of these leaders and their personal convictions about their businesses and their management styles. The stories capture the greatness of these doyens of the electrical industry, both in India and globally.

The event also saw an enlightening talk by Rekha Diwekar about chemistry in the kitchen.
