2024 has emerged a milestone year for Hitachi Energy’s enduring journey in India, marking 75 years since its establishment. Founded in 1949 under various partnerships and names, including Hindustan Electric and ABB Power Grids, the company has evolved into Hitachi Energy, emerging as a leading pioneer in the energy sector. Its inaugural factory, established in Vadodara in 1962, marked the beginning of its expansive growth and modernisation endeavours.

Presently, Hitachi Energy in India hosts approximately 7,000 employees across 19 factories situated in eight manufacturing sites, alongside shared services and a global technology and innovation center in Chennai. This growth underscores the company’s commitment to the Make in India initiative, with a dual focus on serving both domestic and global markets.

Energy & Digital World (EDW) as a forefront technology innovator, Hitachi Energy collaborates closely with customers and partners to nurture a sustainable energy future for current and forthcoming generations. The company has steadfastly adhered to a principle of collaboration and co-creation with those most acquainted with the challenges. Its flagship customer event series, EDW in India, is founded on the same guiding principle: to convene thought leaders and technology experts to shape future digital and energy platforms.

Concurrent with its 75th anniversary, Hitachi Energy launches EDW 2024 on April 23rd in Hyderabad. This multi-city event, spanning five months and encompassing seven cities, will delve into the latest advancements in grid modernization, renewable energy integration, and digital transformation. The event will also feature focused sessions on tailored industry solutions for power quality, data centers, rail, offshore wind, and more. With a core focus on aiding customers and partners in gaining a deeper understanding of Hitachi Energy’s expertise across both power and digital systems through in-depth knowledge sessions.

Hitachi Energy is steadfast in enhancing the sustainability, flexibility, and security of the global energy system, ensuring a balance of social, environmental, and economic values. The EDW events play a pivotal role in forging robust partnerships and collaborations with discerning clients, enabling the company to not only power industries, transportation, and utilities but also to improve the lives of millions in India.

The company’s contributions in India closely align with national projects under Actions@75, having played a pivotal role in realising the “one nation, one grid” vision. Over a third of India’s renewable energy capacity utilizes Hitachi Energy’s technologies, facilitating connections to neighboring states for a more flexible regional grid. Moreover, the company supports half of India’s HVDC links, from the first at Vindhyachal to the latest bidirectional Raigarh-Pugalur link. In the transportation sector, Hitachi Energy has collaborated with Indian Railways to develop indigenous Scott Transformers essential for high-speed rail networks, and its power automation solutions are utilised in over 90 percent of the country’s metro systems.

Through 75 years of operation in India, Hitachi Energy has been an integral part of a significant transformative journey, contributing to a sustainable energy future that transcends mere products and technologies.
