The country’s refining capacity has risen from 215 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) to 258 MMTPA.

Despite global fuel market volatility India’s energy sector is advancing with reforms aimed at boosting capacity exploration and resilience, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri posted on X.

The country’s refining capacity has risen from 215 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) to 258 MMTPA, reinforcing its role as a major processing hub. Reliance Industries’ Jamnagar facility has become Asia’s largest refinery exporting fuels to over 100 countries.

On the exploration front, clearance processes have been streamlined cutting approval stages from 37 to 18 to accelerate project timelines. The 10th round of the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP) has unlocked 2.5 lakh sq km for exploration, drawing more than $1.3 billion in upstream investments.

According to Puri, these measures aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision aim to secure India’s energy future through greater self-reliance, robust infrastructure and strategic exports.
