NTPC registers 148 percent increase in coal production in April 2023

Recently, NTPC achieved its highest-ever monthly dispatch of 2.95 MMT, registering an increase of 148 percent in coal production from captive mines.

The largest integrated power generator in India, NTPC Ltd., recorded an increase of 148 percent in coal production from its own mines in April 2023 compared to the same period in the previous year. As a comparison to the 1.11 MMT recorded for April 2022, NTPC produced 2.75 million metric tonnes (MMT) of coal in April 2023.

The largest power producer in India also successfully achieved its highest-ever monthly coal despatch of 2.95 MMT in April 2023, a 140 percent increase compared to the 1.23 MMT in coal despatch volumes achieved in April 2022.

From its four operational coal mines, NTPC Pakri-Barwadih (Jharkhand), NTPC Chatti Bariatu (Jharkhand), NTPC Dulanga (Odisha), and NTPC Talaipalli (Chhattisgarh), NTPC produced 23.2 million tonnes of coal in FY23, with an increase of 65 percent from 14.02 million tonnes a year earlier.

By embracing technology and digitisation initiatives, the coal mining teams have raised the bar for operational excellence in mining operations. e-SMP, a digitalised safety management plan, and Sachetan, a mobile app for safety, were both implemented as a result of the enhanced processes, which have made a contribution to increased safety in mining operations.

The installed capacity of the NTPC Group is 71,644MW.
