NTPC’s cutting-edge 800 MW unit inaugurated by PM Modi, expanding Telangana’s energy capacity for a greener future.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first 800 MW Unit of the Telangana Super Thermal Power Project by NTPC during a ceremony held in Nizamabad, Telangana today. Addressing the audience,Prime Minister stated that the second unit of the project would commence operations shortly. Upon the completion of the second phase, the project’s total installed capacity will reach 4000 MW, marking it as NTPC’s most cutting-edge power plant in India.

The Phase I of the Telangana Project is being established with an approved budget of ₹10,998 crore and is located on the available land within NTPC’s existing Ramagundam station premises in Peddapalli district. It will provide 85 percent of its generated power to the state of Telangana. This pit head power station, equipped with ultra supercritical technology, will significantly contribute to the availability of cost-effective power in Telangana. Moreover, as the most efficient power station in NTPC’s arsenal in India, it will reduce specific coal consumption and CO2 emissions, thereby establishing itself as one of the nation’s most environmentally compliant power stations.

The commissioning of the project’s first unit has already led to an enhancement in the power supply scenario within Telangana and across the nation. This project is poised to bolster overall economic growth in the region.
