Upgrade to the New Era, with quality that signifies – Symbol of Trust!

Edwards Deming, known as the Father of TQM, once stated, “It is not necessary to change. Survival is not mandatory.” Another quote of his that I adore is, “Quality comes not from inspection but from the improvement of the production process.”

Thanks to COVID, India and the world have learnt the importance of survival and how they need to plan for this, prepare for and prioritise the customer. And appreciate, in the depths of one’s instincts, what it means to upgrade to the New Era!

India is presently being recognised as one of the fastest-growing countries in the world. What can stop this from happening, is trust! And this is due solely to our consistency in meeting customer expectations through proper need analysis, audit, and anticipation.

Whenever one goes overseas, to say, Singapore, Europe, or Dubai, the quality of thinking of the people there, the excellence in their infrastructure and strategic planning, grabs our attention, doesn’t it?

MNC companies in the electrical field do not leave their professionalism behind when they start operations in India. It’s actually good to see the world-class quality getting ingrained into the Indians who are trained by these MNCs.

When the benchmark gets upgraded, my heart goes out to the MSMEs of India who wonder how they are going to upgrade their skills to meet and beat the global competition!

COSMA, or the Control Panel & Switchgear Manufacturers’ Association, has made a definitive and decisive move to upskill panel builders in India. This initiative is being led by a veteran of the control panel industry, Dhananjaya Kudalkar. He has been well trained by Siemens, since his initial days there, way back in 1977. He has also led their SME Panel Partner program since 2000. Today, from his technical consultancy, Niche Quadrant, he is a force to reckon with in Quality Circles in India. President of COSMA Mr. Sanjeev Khinnavar, also Director of Arrow Electricals India Pvt Ltd, a top-class switchboard manufacturer & panel partner for both Schneider Blokset & L&T Ti, Modular & Type Tested Switchboards, having experienced the advantages of quality thinking, rightfully choreographs this entire initiative with missionary zeal.

The 22nd of September 2022, saw the kick-off meeting of this quality initiative over Zoom & Panel Builders from the length & breadth of the country participated & reiterated the need for such a much-needed orientation from COSMA. Those panel builders who align with the COSMA standards would be up for market recognition as being a “Symbol of Trust”. Follow the events on the YouTube COSMA channel and stay updated.

When customers buy a switchboard, they do not make their decisions based on love, but on the fear of its failure. This is the very reason why IEC 61439- 1-2 & IEC 62271-200 for LV & MV installations respectively are gathering signatures in tenders. And globally sensitive approaches like sustainability, digitalization of the switchboard, as well as the Integrated Management System of Quality & EHS are catching the specifiers’ imagination in India!
