KEI Industries: Leading the charge towards a sustainable future
.

KEI is proud to introduce the highly anticipated product- ‘Conflame Green+’, this cutting-edge addition redefines house wiring, emphasising safety, savings, reliability, and eco-friendliness.

In the dynamic landscape of the utilities sector in India, digital transformation catalyses efficiency and sustainability. KEI Industries is pioneering innovative solutions in this changing scenario. Mr. Anil Gupta (CMD,KEI Industries Limited) delves into the industry to share his thoughts with EPR Magazine.

Digital transformation and the cable industry

A compelling digital transformation narrative unfolds amid India’s vibrant tapestry of utility landscape. Catalysts for this paradigm shift include a vigorous pursuit of efficient energy management, the integration of smart grid technologies, and regulatory initiatives propelling the integration of renewable energy. As we traverse this digital frontier, the intersection of IoT and data analytics emerges as the beacon guiding the sector towards unprecedented operational optimisation. KEI’s journey delves into the core of this transformative era, where innovation and connectivity converge to redefine the future of utilities in India with state-of-the-art NABL accredited in-house labs.

India’s cable industry has started adapting to digital transformation in the power sector by embracing advancements such as smart grid technologies and IoT connectivity. These innovations allow for real- time monitoring and control of power distribution, enhancing efficiency and reliability. Additionally, digital communication has facilitated faster and more secure data transmission, enabling utilities to respond promptly to fluctuations and optimise grid performance. Furthermore, the advancement of infrastructure generates a heightened demand for both high- tension (HT) and low- tension (LT) cables, driven by the integration of digital technologies. This indicates a strategic evolution within the cable industry, leading to a more resilient and responsive power infrastructure in coming years.

Government initiatives and KEI contribution

Recently announced PM Suryodaya Scheme, aiming to provide solar- generated electricity to 1 crore households, is poised to bolster the housewire & solar cable industry’s growth, as wires are integral to infrastructure development. This initiative aligns with India’s goal of energy self- reliance and addresses the need to reduce household electricity expenses. Despite this fuel-led growth in the energy sector, KEI Wires and Cables stands ready to leverage its expertise and innovative solutions to contribute to the realisation of this ambitious vision. With the government’s ambitious infrastructure plans, especially in railways, smart cities, and highways, KEI is well-positioned to contribute to these projects. The Digital India campaign and the Ministry of Power’s initiatives offer opportunities for KEI to supply specialised cables for various applications, including renewable energy projects. Rural electrification, a government priority, is expected to propel the electric wire and cable market’s growth, aligning with KEI’s commitment to innovative solutions. Anticipating substantial investments, KEI aims to play a pivotal role in achieving the government’s vision of providing cheaper electricity to every home and making our country self-reliant.

The KEI Wires and Cables proudly unveil its vision of “Next-gen living, Eco- friendly solutions” with the upcoming product range that connects and cares. KEI is proud to introduce the highly anticipated product, KEI Conflame Green+. This cutting-edge addition redefines home wiring, emphasising safety, reliability, and eco-friendliness.

Contribution to the greener future

KEI promotes sustainability and contributes to a greener future through various initiatives. Firstly, the company invests in renewable energy sources such as solar power to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and mitigate its carbon footprint. Additionally, KEI prioritises waste management by implementing recycling programmes and waste-to- energy solutions, thereby minimising environmental impact and pollution. KEI leads the way by offering innovative products and solutions to enhance sustainability. The products are ROHS- compliant and eco-friendly. In addition to sustainable product offerings, KEI implements various practices for sustainability within its factories. These include water recycling systems to minimise water usage, pollution control systems to reduce emissions, and electricity generation through solar panels to harness renewable energy sources. KEI also emphasises effective waste management systems to minimise environmental impact.

These efforts collectively contribute to KEI’s commitment to sustainability and shaping a more environmentally friendly future.

Smart cables contributing to curb AT&C losses

Historically and traditionally, the transmission and distribution of power has been done through overhead transmission networks through interstate transmission lines of bare aluminum conductors connected through several high voltage substations enroute for grid stability and reduction of power losses. In the last three decades newer technologies have emerged replacing traditional ACSR conductors with high temperatures low sag conductors (HTLS), which can carry two times more power on the same line without changing the infrastructure. Newer technologies are emerging like laying off high voltage DC cables systems which can carry multiple times of power with negligible losses and with least safety risk. It also solves the problems of right of way by saving a substantial amount of land used for erecting transmission towers.

In the distribution segment the overhead network is being replaced with an underground cable network which substantially reduces AT&C losses to less than 6 percent as compared to 25 percent losses in the overhead network. To improve payment collection by the power distribution companies, electronic smart metering is being implemented having prepaid meters or postpaid meters. Distribution networks are improved substantially through underground cables. New technology distribution transformers and substations, the major challenge in executing these projects are the right of way and cooperation from the public which is inconvenienced during the execution.
