Niznal®—a zinc-aluminium alloy coated steel wire, offers a significant upgrade over conventional hot-dip galvanised wires, providing up to six times the lifespan.
Ensuring reliable and efficient electrical infrastructure is essential in the evolving energy landscape. Nirmal Wires is a well-established name in the electrical industry. In an exclusive interview with Varun Saraf, EPR brings you the highlights of the company’s remarkable journey, industry insights, and the latest technological advancements. Saraf shares a forward-looking vision for the future that emphasises innovation, quality, and sustained growth. Let us know more.
How does Niznal’s extended lifespan and sustainability contribute to modern power infrastructure?
We have been deeply rooted in the power industry for decades and recently unveiled an innovative product, Niznal®—a zinc-aluminium alloy coated steel wire. Niznal® offers a significant upgrade over conventional hot-dip galvanised wires, providing up to six times the lifespan under similar conditions. This makes it a more sustainable and efficient solution that aligns with green energy goals by reducing life cycle cost and extending product life.
We have also introduced Misch Metal, a promising new material for the conductor and cable industry. Our legacy as steel wire manufacturers spans nearly 60 years, with deep expertise in traditional coatings (A, B, C grades) as per ASTM standards. However, Niznal® marks a transformative shift towards higher efficiency and durability—two core features that set it apart in today’s evolving power infrastructure landscape.
How does your integrated manufacturing approach enhance product quality and global competitiveness?
With our current capacity of 15,000 tons of steel wires and 4,000 tons of aluminium products monthly, what sets us apart is our integrated manufacturing capability. We are among the few companies in India offering a complete end-to-end solution for conductor production. From melting aluminium ingots to manufacturing our rods, conductors, and galvanised steel core wires, every stage is handled in-house, ensuring strict quality control and consistency.
India’s current steel consumption is still just one-fifth that of the leading country globally, indicating significant room for growth. While our capacity is strong, we see it as a stepping stone toward a much larger opportunity. A major chunk of our production is exported, and we are proud to be the first Indian steel wire manufacturer approved under Japanese international standards to export to 42 countries worldwide.
The global demand for high-quality, reliable products remains robust, and we believe that by consistently meeting and exceeding customer expectations, we can continue to expand. Our commitment to innovation, with products such as Niznal® , and our legacy along with global reach positions us firmly in the evolving conductor and power infrastructure markets. While we focus primarily on conductors rather than directly addressing transmission losses, advancements like HTLS, AI 59 and various new conductors will help reduce them. Our strategy emphasises on efficient manufacturing and quality to maintain consistency and control.
How do you plan to scale operations to meet the increasing market demand effectively?
We plan to expand our steel wires production capacity by 5,000 to 7,000 tons and aluminium capacity by another 5,000 tons this year. This expansion will require an estimated investment of around ₹100 crores. Most of this investment will be made in our Orissa plant, with the balance allocated to our Deulti facility. Given our ongoing production cycle and short lead times, we aim to complete this expansion within the current calendar year to meet growing demand efficiently.
