Sterlite Power, a major power transmission developer and solutions provider in India and Brazil, recently introduced two cutting-edge technologies—96 Fiber OPGW and ACCC ULS Brahmaputra High Performance Conductor—to deliver dependable, secure, and highly efficient power transmission solutions. These innovations will allow for further digitization of the transmission industry while decreasing transmission losses.
The 96 Fiber Optical Ground Wire (OPGW): This is a particular higher fibre count OPGW (optical ground wire) developed to strengthen India’s power transmission infrastructure, which must be future-ready to accommodate rising electricity demand and data traffic. OPGW technology with a high fibre count is especially vital for India, which has emerged as the world’s largest and fastest-growing market for digital technologies and services. This OPGW design, developed for the first time in India, is suited for installation on towers with line voltages of 132/220 kV and 400 kV, and will serve as a cost-effective solution, enabling faster and more reliable communication while expanding energy access to underserved areas.
The ACCC-ULS Brahmaputra High Performance Conductor (HPC) is a first-of-its-kind high performance conductor designed to overcome the constraints and problems involved with the essential crossing of India’s largest river, the Brahmaputra. This is a world-first conductor that combines special earth wire and OPGW. The innovative design blends an aluminium alloy with an ultra-low sag composite core, improving the efficiency, capacity, reliability, and robustness of the key river crossing span.
“India’s largest gathering for the power and electrical industries, ELECRAMA provides us with the perfect platform to showcase our innovative solutions and capabilities that are helping transform India’s transmission industry and improve the overall reliability and efficiency of India’s national grid,” said Manish Agarwal, Director & CEO, India Transmission, Sterlite Power. “We remain committed to nation-building and boosting access to power in the country’s distant and disadvantaged areas.”
Sterlite Power successfully unveiled ACCC ULS Ganga at the 2020 ELECRAMA edition, a high-performance (HPC) low-sag conductor that was laid across the Ganga, making it the longest river crossing using an HPC conductor on a 400 kV line.
Sterlite Power, a pioneer in integrated power transmission solutions, has 30 projects in India and Brazil. In addition to providing reliable power to the country, the corporation has been a true forerunner of sustainable development.
