The hydroge-powered truck can transport up to 40 tonnes and has a driving range of over 200 km.

Adani Enterprises has launched India’s first hydrogen-powered truck for mining logistics in Chattisgarh. This is the first major step taken by the company to replace its diesel trucks with these eco-friendly trucks. The truck can transport up to 40 tonnes and has a driving range of over 200 km. Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai launched the first truck in Raipur, which will transport coal from the Gare Pelma III Block to the state’s power plant.

Adani Enterprises has said in an official statement that they are working with an Indian and international energy company and an automotive firm to develop these hydrogen-powered trucks. The trucks are equipped with three hydrogen tanks. At the flag off, the chief minister said that the state is committed reduce carbon and adopt sustainable practices. At the launch, Sai said ’’The launch of India’s first hydrogen-powered truck in Chhattisgarh reflects the state’s commitment to sustainability. Such initiatives will significantly reduce our carbon footprint and set a new standard for industry. Chhattisgarh is not only at the forefront in meeting the country’s electricity demands but also leads by example in adopting sustainable practices.”

The state-owned Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited has appointed Adani Enterprises as the mine developer and operator for the Gare Pelma III block through a competitive bidding process.

“We aim to ensure affordable and reliable electricity for all while pioneering new standards in sustainable mining practices,” said Vinay Prakash, CEO – Natural Resources and Director, Adani Enterprises. The project is a joint effort between Adani Natural Resources (ANR) and Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL). Both entities are part of Adani Enterprises. ANR will source hydrogen cells from ANIL, which is also involved in green hydrogen, wind turbines, solar modules, and battery manufacturing. Hydrogen, the most abundant element, produces no harmful emissions.

The hydrogen-powered mining truck initiative is a collaborative effort between Adani Natural Resources (ANR) and Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL), both subsidiaries of Adani Enterprises. ANR, responsible for mining logistics, will source hydrogen fuel cells from ANIL, which specialises in renewable energy solutions, including green hydrogen production, wind turbines, solar modules, and battery manufacturing. This in-house synergy allows the Adani Group to leverage its vertically integrated clean energy ecosystem, ensuring a sustainable and self-reliant approach to decarbonising heavy transport in the mining sector.
