Coal India Limited (CIL) has established a new subsidiary, CIL Rajasthan Akshay Urja Limited, to spearhead its renewable energy initiatives in Rajasthan. The entity is a joint venture between Coal India and the state-run power utility Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) with Coal India holding a 74 percent stake and RRVUNL the remaining 26 percent.
Officially incorporated on June 12, 2025, the subsidiary aims to develop, build and operate renewable energy projects including solar, wind and pumped storage systems in the state. Power generated by these projects will primarily be sold to RRVUNL, though the venture may also supply electricity to other similar buyers subject to mutual agreement. Coal India has confirmed that the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has issued the Certificate of Incorporation for the new company. This move aligns with Coal India’s broader strategy to diversify into clean energy following approval from the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) received on January 15, 2025.We use cookies to personalize your experience.
