Extremely severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ made a landfall in Puri on Odisha coast on 3rd May, 2019 (Friday morning) – triggering heavy rainfall accompanied with gusty wind at speed above 175 kmph. The storm lashed out its fury over the coastal district of Puri and other adjoining district with severe disaster. As per the official sources besides other major infrastructure, the entire power installations in and around Puri district got devastated in the cyclonic storm, which damaged 75 towers of 220 kV and 25 towers of 132 kV.
At a time when it is difficult to imagine a life without electricity, its importance is needless to explain in respect of Puri, which marks unique place on the World Heritage Map. The situation went grimmer as the state is witnessing heat waves like situation.
In this situation of dire need, all members of IEEMA stood with people of Odisha with a commitment to take up on priority any assistance which the State Government and power utilities needed for faster restoration of the electrical infrastructure. Supreme & Co Pvt Ltd along with other members of IEEMA has supported the restoration work. India’s first indigenously developed steel based ERS tower by Supreme & Co Pvt Ltd was used to substitute the wrecked 132 kV towers between Lilo and Puri-Samkuha. This enables charging between Puri Grid and Samkuha Grid to transfer bulk load of 70 MW.
