Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar emphasised that Waste-to-Energy is not only crucial for scientific waste management but also for reducing the mounting landfill burden and generating renewable energy.
Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, chaired a joint review meeting on the progress of Waste-to-Energy (WtE) plants. In the meeting he directed officials to accelerate expansion and ensure timely implementation. He shared the details in a post on ‘X’.
During the meeting, Khattar emphasised that Waste-to-Energy is not only crucial for scientific waste management but also for reducing the mounting landfill burden and generating renewable energy. He underlined the importance of fast-tracking projects across states to support India’s clean energy transition and urban sustainability goals.“Waste-to-Energy (WtE) is a critical step in our journey towards a circular economy, sustainable cities and energy security for a Viksit Bharat,” Khattar said, highlighting the dual benefits of cleaner cities and reliable power generation. The minister urged coordination between departments to streamline approvals, encourage private participation and adopt global best practices in WtE operations. He further stressed that robust infrastructure for waste processing and energy recovery will play a pivotal role in achieving India’s vision of sustainable urban development.
