Australia lifts ban on uranium mining
Queensland, Australia has lifted a 23-year ban on mining uranium, to reach an agreement to export supplies to India. The Australian and Indian prime ministers held talks recently for Australia to sell uranium to India after Australia indicated that it will end its block on exports.
Queensland State Premier Campbell Newman had said that the decision to allow mining to resume in Australian state followed public debate coupled with strong support for the uranium industry from the Federal Labour government.
