Kerala to have 200 MW wind farm
Kerela government to set up wind farm with a capacity to generate 200 MW with the help of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and another wind farm with capacity of 22 MW and it would come up at Kanjikkode. K M Mani, Finance Minister, Kerala made this announcement.
Mr Mani also announced the setting up of solar energy panels at reservoirs. The panels could be fixed on floating rafts to tap solar energy. According to solar energy expert, Kerala lacks large tracks of land and this problem can be overcome by installing solar panel rafts in reservoirs and this model has been running well in many countries.
According to a study, Kerala has wind energy potential of at least 2,000 MW which is still unused and around 1,500 MW wind power can be generated at Walayar and surrounding areas.
