State Power Minister Aroop Biswas announced the decision. JSW Group is already building two identical units in Salboni. Furthermore, construction on the 660 MW Sagardighi supercritical plant is underway to accommodate the state’s increasing industrial and consumer electricity demand. The move intends to prevent future power outages, a substantial departure from the loadshedding concerns encountered previously.

Since 2011, the state has invested 76,000 crore in generation, transmission and distribution facilities, with an additional 48,000 crore projected. According to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, infrastructure successes in West Midnapore include 3.5 lakh km of power lines and 750 substations with a total investment of ₹3,700 crore.
