Analysers with an integrated power inverter efficiency mode
.

The heart of any solar power system rests in power inverters. Power inverters take DCcurrent and transform it into ACcurrent, or vice versa. But, what percentage of that power going into the inverter comes out as usable current? The Fluke 434-II and 435-II Analysers have an integrated power inverter efficiency mode that allows users to better understand power inverter performance. Nothing is ever 100 per cent efficient and a power inverter’s efficiency will vary depending on how much power is being used at the time with the efficiency generally being greater when more power is being used.

Inverters can also lose performance over time and need to be checked. By comparing the input power with the output power, you can determine the system efficiency. With the power inverter efficiency feature, you can discover just how good your inverter is at converting your DC power to AC (or vice versa).

The 434-II and 435-II measures DC voltage and DC current on one channel using optional DC current clamp and measures AC voltage and AC current through the remaining channels. Since all the measurement channels are isolated, simultaneous measurement of DC power and AC power is possible. By measuring the DC power and AC power simultaneously, the instrument also calculates and displays the efficiency of the solar inverter instantly. These instruments are portable in nature that allows all these measurements to be performed without disturbing the load. The instrument also has the data recording feature so that the efficiency can be trended over a period of time under different load condition.

Apart from measurement of inverter efficiency, the instrument also provides complete power quality information such as harmonics, unbalance, voltage dip/swell and transient. They also perform energy studies to measure the energy supplied by these solar inverters over a period of time.
