India has the potential to achieve the 100 GW of solar power generation targert by 2022 and Bosch is committed to be a part of this success story.
Dr. Steffen Berns, Managing Director, Bosch Limited and President of Bosch Group in India.
Bosch India, a subsidiary of European technology and service provider Bosch, is all set to tap the opportunities to be generated by the government’s smart cities initiative. India plans to have 100 such cities by 2022. Sixty have been chosen, including 20 in January and 13 in May.
The German auto components manufacturing major unveiled a range of connected and smart solutions for smart cities space at a preview of its new products and services held in Bengaluru recently.
Drawing knowledge from its core expertise in Mobility Solutions, Bosch India is running pilot projects in the smart city in Bengaluru, providing intelligent parking system to enable commuters find parking space for their cars in crowded areas through sensors.
Bosch offers end-to-end solutions in the smart city segment. Solutions from Bosch, such as the intelligent parking system, allow commuters to find a space in crowded areas such as central business districts. This solution consists of parking slot occupancy detection through sensors.
“Our system further allows the end-user to search, book and pay via mobile for a parking space,” said Dr. Steffen Berns, Managing Director, Bosch Limited and President of Bosch Group in India. Apart from the intelligent parking system Bosch India also offers intelligent traffic management systems and citizen safety and security, and intelligent transportation system. In an increasingly connected world, the linkage of the physical and virtual worlds provides the opportunity to offer new applications. “Bosch is uniquely positioned to offer meaningful solutions by harnessing its expertise across hardware, software and services,” mentioned Dr. Berns. Commenting further he said, “India benefits significantly from this aspect as it is home to Bosch’s largest engineering centre outside Germany, and we do understand the country’s local market requirements.”
Bosch powering Cochin airportIndia has set an ambitious target of reaching 175 GW of installed capacity from renewable energy sources including 100 GW from solar and 60 GW from wind by the year 2022. Bosch is committed to be a part of this success story.
In August 2015, Bosch commissioned a 12 MW solar project for Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL). Built on a land of 50 acres, this is the single largest solar project which has been constructed in an airport in India. The project executed by Bosch Energy and Building Solutions (BEBS) team in India is estimated to generate approximately 50,000 units of electricity daily.
Wind and solar energy are intermittent by nature and their fluctuating behaviour stresses the stability of the power grid leading in many cases to curtailment of renewables. Bosch offers power storage solutions to solve these challenges, thereby enhancing reliability of renewable. Venugopalan CM, Vice President (Head – Energy Division), Bosch Ltd believes, the breakthrough is yet to come wherein storage become more affordable.
