Using special fans for wind turbines, the heat load can be efficiently reduced, and cooling of the relevant components is ensured, even at the height of summer. In addition, efficient cooling increases the performance and, therefore, the profitability of the entire installation.
In many areas of photovoltaics, air cooling is superior to water cooling because it is less complicated, involves a lower risk of damage, and can be realised more cost-effectively. This includes cooling the electronics, e.g., the inverters, which convert the direct current generated in large-scale PV systems into alternating current. For this purpose, the operators of solar parks rely on active, i.e., fan-supported air cooling, which can be controlled as precisely as possible to operate according to demand and thus safely and economically simultaneously.
Photovoltaic systems must also be cooled or kept in the suitable temperature range even on hot days because excessive heating leads to considerable losses in efficiency and can thus reduce the yield on days with exceptionally high sunshine.
