Chintan Patel, MD, Topsun Energy Ltd.

A religious participant in the REI Expo, Topsun has been one of the leading players in the solar industry as manufacturers and system integrators. They are said to be one of the leading system integrators with PV module manufacturing with a total plant capacity 50MW at current efficiency levels of 300 WP crystalline module. Here, Chintan Patel, MD, Topsun Energy Ltd, shares about his company’s REI participation, its new launch and Topsun’s view on India’s solar industry.

Tell us about your participation in the REI Expo 2018.
Topsun has been regularly participating in the REI Expo. Our R&D team religiously comes up with innovative ideas to stay at par with the competition. Every year, we strive to launch new products in the expo. This year we have launched PVGU.

Can you please walk us through what PVGU is all about?
The PVGU is a step ahead of our regular BIPV panels. This is a much better technology than the existing ones in terms of meeting the challenges of heat and noise. This is in addition to generating power that is pure and sure. Of course, as this is the beginning of a new era, it is a bit costly, but we are sure about its acceptance. What is most important for us is awareness and accurate offerings to our customers. We have established a pan-India chain of representatives certified by Topsun to take our name forward in the market.

How do you gauge the current scenario of the power industry in India?
Solar, up till now, has created ample awareness. The majority of Indian power sector is catered by one of the verticals, solar. Now,
we have expanded to residential and commercial as well. So, the gain is maximum for solar.

How do you see the future of rooftop solar in India?
The government has a target of 100 GW by 2020 and most of the solar projects are undertaken by the big solar companies. Right now, the contribution of rooftop is less than 5 per cent but it still has a bright future. I see the rooftop solar market will be going up gradually. This will happen mainly because every state is taking up the rooftop projects. Owing to all these, there might be a generation of 1,000 MW in future.
