.

Narendra Goliya, Director, Rishabh Instruments Pvt. Ltd., in an interaction with EPR Magazine, talks about the key advantages and challenges in the T&M industry, and also mentions few factors that can revolutionise the industry.

What kind of potential do you see in the T&M market?
Test and measuring instruments industry is driving the country’s growth enormously. India’s GDP is growing at an average of 5-6 percent, and the electrical industry is growing at 10 percent, while performing companies are growing at 15-20 percent. We require investment opportunities, and the recently announced project sanctions worth ₹5 lakh crore for infrastructure will boost the electrical sector, particularly T&M, as they require such products. With this, the T&M industry is also experiencing a growth of 10-15 percent. However, we must note that customers’ needs and expectations keep changing, so it’s crucial that we follow the same pattern.

How is T&M contributing to the electrical sector?
In order to grow, one must understand the flow of current frequency, and what the exact frequency in monitors is, along with the amount of available, excess and required electricity. Today, we have a surplus amount of electricity; and people are more conscious about the quality. When it comes to quality, we must take a sample amount of electricity for testing and measurement. T&M equipment helps you measure pollution in the electricity unit and rectify faults.

What are the challenges you face in this industry?
Being conscious and cautious is one of the critical challenges. Awareness among the consumers regarding the essentialities of T&M instruments is crucial. We belong to a country that is more conscious about value for money, and maybe because of that, we end up compromising on quality, safety, and reliability of products. Today, we have many safety standards that ensure we are not risking anything while measuring. We have a power factor unit for harmonic control, and laws pertaining to the same must include penalties. Moreover, the lower income class consumers should also be conscious of the quality of power and the amount of power being consumed. In order to have an efficient system, one must realise the available quality that fits in the prescribed norms. Adding multiple elements to the system and instruments must be avoided in the first place, or whatever we consume for our system must be paid for. The spreading of this awareness is slow, but hopefully soon people will be conscious about these aspects and act wisely.
