The overall impetus given to the infrastructure development across the country will cause a rise in power demand as well.
Rajesh Nandwani, VP & Business Unit Head–Switchgear, Anchor Electricals
Anchor was the first company in India to introduce the concept of switchgear in switch plates, claims Rajesh Nandwani, Vice President and Business Unit Head–Switchgear, Anchor Electricals. Today, it also manufactures RoHS compliant switchgear under the brand Panasonic and Anchor’s own switchgear product range was further strengthened with Panasonic technology. The company’s new factory is expected to be fully operational in Haridwar soon and it eyes a robust growth in the switchgear business.
Surplus may take timePower surplus will not happen in fraction of second as various initiatives and development will cause rise in power, believes Nandwani. “While the power supply surplus is projected, we feel that it may still take about two years more to actually see the surplus. Several initiatives of the government, such as Make in India, Housing for All by 2022, Digital India, smart cities mission and the overall impetus given to the infrastructure development across the country will cause a rise in power demand as well. Consequently, we also foresee a rise in the demand for switchgear and other protection devices,” he comments.
‘Made in India’ pushNandwani believes that domestic products will be  the game changer for this transformation. “While the infrastructure growth happens on one end, the focus of the government to promote the India-made products is going to be one of the game changing equations,” he says.
As a key member of Panasonic Corporation’s Eco Solutions Company in India, Anchor is venturing in the space of homes and living. “We have unveiled the UNO range of switchgear that has been received well by the Indian market. By this yearend we intend to expand the offerings from UNO from residential segments to some products in the commercial segment,” informs Nandwani about the company’s contribution.
Opportunities in commercial & residential segmentWith the core business of electrical construction materials, Anchor’s journey of more than 53 years has been an exciting one. The advent of Panasonic further strengthened the manufacturing capabilities. “The current ambitious power addition plans will definitely churn new opportunities for business in commercial segment apart from residential as the government initiatives will propel a holistic industry growth,” he reveals.
