In a conversation with Chandmal Goliya, Director, Kusam Electrical Industries Ltd, talks about the latest innovations in the test and measurement instrument industry and how they can be utilised to improve the best practices in various industries.

What is going to be your focus in the 14th edition of ELECRAMA?
KUSAM-MECO is a 37-year-old company in the field of electronic test and measuring instruments. We have been introducing new innovative products year after year since our inception. We will participate in ELECRAMA 2020 and showcase new innovative products for various industries. We will introduce new products with high safety features, and instruments for the automotive industry and solar industry.

How do you view the rise of IoT and Industry 4.0 transforming the sector?
Traditionally, the test and measuring instrument industry has functions limited to measuring electrical parameters and either displaying it on the instrument screen or retaining it in the internal memory of the instrument for downloading later to a PC. Lately, some instruments have the facility of Bluetooth transmission of data. Yet, IoT has not penetrated in this industry. In the future, when more features will be added to the instruments, IoT may play a greater role.

What kind of opportunities are there in smart electricity in India?
There are a lot of opportunities for smart electricity in India. So far, we have been using traditional/manual means of measuring and recording. With more and more automation taking place in our country, many systems which are now controlled manually will be controlled automatically. Signalling in the Railways is one example. Another example is the regulation of traffic by electronic signals. As a step further, the traffic department has now installed remote cameras at various locations to catch traffic offenders, whether the policeman is present or not. So also at many international airports, human interference has reduced tremendously. All these steps contribute towards a smart city.

Can you brief about the latest innovations and additions for your range of solutions?
KUSAM-MECO has always kept the customer’s requirement in focus when deciding a new product. We have added an intrinsically safe digital multimeter for the chemical, pharma, mining, and oil & gas sectors. We are also considering adding intrinsically safe insulation resistance testers and thermal imagers in the near future. KUSAM-MECO will also launch products for the automotive sector.

What are your plans and projections for the next two years?
KUSAM-MECO plans to enter new fields in the power sector, gas instruments sector and also the automotive sector where opportunities are present.
