Solar Sector: Charged up for growth

With more than 13,000 attendees and 241 exhibitors engaged in meaningful conversations, Intersolar India concluded on a happy note.

Compared to solar’s share of 31.9 per cent in the first half of 2017, solar accounted for 39 per cent of new installed capacity additions at the end of the third quarter. As long as solar remains cheaper than coal, it will continue to overtake it as the fastest growing energy generation source, bringing with it tremendous environmental benefits.

The positive market situation created a very optimistic atmosphere on the show floor during Intersolar India 2017. More than 13,000 attendees and 241 exhibitors engaged in meaningful conversations about the best approaches for sustained market success. With the special exhibitions ees (electrical energy storage) and Power2Drive, Intersolar India has set the next steps for the energy transition in India. Around 50 companies showcased electrical energy storage solutions on the show floor – highlighting the ever-increasing importance of stabilising the grid in India. In addition, battery industry professionals shared their views on how to steer developments in India more actively at the presentation stage.

Various product launches, award ceremonies and the sold-out networking event “Solar Power Developers Night” have highlighted the event as an important meeting and business gathering point for the complete solar and energy storage industry in India. Here we highlight some of the key highlights of Intersolar India 2017.

BKC-AT60: A multi-functional integrated data logger
BKC WeatherSys Pvt Ltd is a private sector meteorology and environmental technology company. Founded in 1989, BKC WeatherSys provides turnkey technology and service solutions for weather, power, aviation, agriculture and solar energy industries.
Commenting on the company’s participation at Intersolar India 2017, Dr Jaya Singh, Director, BKC WeatherSys Pvt Ltd said, “Intersolar is a key event for the solar industry always. We specialise in solar radiation monitoring and weather monitoring equipment and devices like pyranometers, weather stations and data acquisition systems. So instruments are one component for measuring solar radiation and weather at a particular site, for both utility and rooftop systems. The second key part is data services wherein we can predict how much energy a plant is producing, monitor its performance, and for schedule energy sent to the grid.”

At Intersolar India 2017, the company displayed its BKC-AT60 Data Logger that collates data from various different instruments and integrates them into a SCADA system.

BKC-AT60 is a multi-functional integrated data logger. It is designed to work with multiple sensors. It is compatible with any kind of radiometers including Kipp and Zonen’s solar radiometers and industry standard meteorological instruments for wind speed and direction, temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure and rainfall etc. BKC-AT60 logger is supplied with user-friendly computer software to make configuration fast and simple, using RS232 serial communication. It has software for configuration of logging function and download and storage of the data on a window computer. The data files are in ACSII and can be easily exported to spreadsheets.

GermanSolar’s Lithium battery storage system
GermanSolar is a solar energy manufacturer with subsidiaries on three continents, sales or distribution and services in Europe, North and Central America and South America in the United States, Taiwan and Singapore, India, Vietnam and China in Asia.

At Intersolar India 2017, GermanSolar displayed its Lithium energy storage system with the capacity of 1.2 kWh. This system having 130 batteries installed works for very long with zero maintenance. There is no need of distil water and a lot of wiring is avoided as it is connected using a connector, informs Aadesh Kothari, Director, GermanSolar Energy India Pvt Ltd.

He adds, “The target market for our newly launched CPT 48V 1.2 kWh Lithium energy storage system include banks where it essential to have uninterrupted power supply 24/7.”

Gensol’s Ezybox: A plug-and-play solar generator
Founded in 2007, Gensol Group is a 360-degree solar power solutions provider. Ezysolare.com, the e-commerce division of Gensol has launched Ezybox at the recently concluded Intersolar India 2017 in Mumbai.

Ezybox is a plug-and-play solar generator which can be installed on any kind of roof or terrain within less than an hour. It is most suitable for houses, shops, construction sites, rural and agricultural areas.

Puneet Singh Jaggi, Director, Gensol Group says, “Our newly launched Ezybox is basically a plug-and-play solar generator. It takes only an hour or so for a house to completely go solar instead of about 2 to 3 months time that it takes right now.”

Spark Solar’s 120 Cells Rapid Series

Spark Rapid 120 cells series module produces energy even if part of the module is shaded. Whereas if standard module is partially shaded minimum one string will completely stop producing power, this accounts to one third reduction in power generation. Moreover, it can even completely stop generating power if shaded across its breadth. Rapid 120 cells series module is split into two parts. Each section of 60 half cut cells generates power on standalone basis but combines again before current exits the module. This structure results in power generation in non- shaded area of the module even if one of the sections is partially or completely shaded, resulting in higher overall energy yield as compared to standard module.

RelyOn launches SCADA to monitor solar power plant health
RelyOn Solar, a leading company in India’s solar power sector, unveiled its SCADA – an Advance Monitoring System built on IoT platform. It helps in monitoring the health of solar power plants and is capable of Real-time data acquisition and analytics.

According to Suhas Pansare, Vice President- Sales and Marketing of the company, RelyOn Solar’s SCADA is capable of historical data collection and analysis and can assist in creating customised charts and performance analysis. The product assists the users in decision-making through trends and the user can also take actions based on the data analysis to improve the Plant performance. In case of any plant-related issues, the user can directly check the origin from across the world and take necessary action. This helps in increasing the plant uptime and hence improves the generation of the plant.

“It is also a great tool for optimising O&M. The system is capable of maintenance scheduling and tracking making it easier to keep the process on track,” he adds.

As the solar industry is growing it’s becoming increasingly competitive. With the reduction in solar tariffs, today viability of projects is dependent upon increasing the output of the plant. “With RelyOn Solar’s SCADA one can stay competitive and improve project returns, reduce operating costs and lower the LCOE,” Pansare said.

The SCADA launch is an effort towards building a tool to take solar closer to assured power. Various technologies are essential to accomplishing this in a cost-effective manner including the development of accurate forecasting and prediction capability. “Through enhancement of SCADA platform, we will develop energy forecasting and day ahead prediction capability to make the solar primary source of energy,” Pansare asserts.

Topsun’s BAPV Crystalline Solar Modules
Topsun Energy Ltd, a major player in developing and producing photovoltaic modules, displayed its BAPV Crystalline Solar Modules during the recently concluded Intersolar India 2017.

BAPV (Building Attached Photovoltaics) modules are crystalline modules that are manufactured to suit any customised requirements of buildings for light as well power generation and for applications any time after the building is constructed. According to Chintan Patel, Managing Director, Topsun Energy, “Our BAPV is not like BIPV that it has to be designed from day one when the building is under construction. BAPV can be retrofitted and installed anytime when the building is ready as per the requirement.”

Apart from focusing on the domestic market, Topsun is also concentrating in South East and Middle East Asia and Africa. “In future our target will be the US market,” informs Patel.
