“We need to have more efficient and power saving pumps to be introduced in the market. Also, selection of pumps should be proper and avoid selecting overrated pumps”

Renewable energy is the future and the Indian pumps are playing a vital role in the power sector, says Nikhil Joshi, General Manager (Sales and Marketing), Industrial and Commercial Building Segment Products, LUBI Industries LLP. Joshi also believes that the Indian pumps, with their updated models and designs focused on efficiency, are now quite capable of competing with its global counterparts.

‘Renewable energy is economical’
Yes! Non-renewable energy resources are depleting steadily and it will be replaced by renewable energy one day. Lot of government initiatives and other awareness activities have been beneficial in making people understand the importance of renewable energy and embrace it. The first and foremost thing that we need to understand is that renewable energy is economical. For example, if you are installing a rooftop solar at your home, there might be some initial investments and costs involved in it. But, when you see the overall calculation, one will realise that it’s rather economical. Now, more people are accepting renewable energy thanks to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and all other regulating authorities.

Pumps also play an important role in the power sector and the selection of pumps is critical. Many times people use overrated pumps with higher capacities, which should be avoided. We need to consider the efficiency of the pump before installing it.

Driving India’s growth through electrification
Electricity is the main driver of the economy. Earlier, countries with crude power were considered more powerful and their economies were very strong. Similarly, the upcoming generation with more energy and power efficiency will drive the country.

Initiatives to promote Indian pumps
In the pumping industry, I1 and I2 motors have been upgraded to I3 and I4, which increases the efficiency. This will definitely have a significant, yet positive, impact on the economy and help save power.

Importance of pumps in Indian economy
We need to have more efficient and power saving pumps to be introduced in the market. Also, selection on pumps should be proper and avoid selecting overrated pumps. We should also select pumps according to our requirement rather than going for more energy consuming motors.

Indian pumps becoming more efficient
Indian companies are now well-equipped. As per our survey, the total market for Indian pumps is about 10,000 crore per annum. This includes foreign players as well. However, the Indian companies are becoming more and more powerful in all segments lately. The companies are now introducing pumps with fresh design and improved efficiencies. This shows that the Indian companies are well-equipped to compete with foreign players.

Emerging trends in pumping technologies
Several models with more efficient and compact designs have been introduced in the market. For example, earlier, submersible pumps were not used in Effluent Treatment Plants and Sewage Treatment Plants. But, today, it is being used widely. These changes will definitely help increase efficiency and save power a lot. These are the emerging trends in pumping industries.
