My vision for Mecc Alte India is to be known as the country’s gold standard for alternators and as a company that provides outstanding support and application development to its customers, says Sameer Wagh, Chief General Manager – Commercial, Mecc Alte India Private Limited.
Can you tell us about your company’s presence in the domestic and global electrical markets?
Mecc Alte has traditionally offered a single product line – Synchronous Alternators from 1-5000kVA, ranging from portable to industrial and MV/HV alternators for power generation. We offer 2-pole and 4-pole alternators with best-in-class efficiencies and other performance parameters. We are India’s largest manufacturer of two-pole machines.
Mecc Alte India has come a long way since its inception in 2010. We manufacture 5kVA to 750kVA industrial alternators in-house and supply higher kVA alternators from other Mecc Alte units worldwide. Our continued expansion in the Indian market attests to the product’s widespread acceptance among Indian customers.
Mecc Alte produced the first synchronous alternator in Italy in 1954. Since 1972, Mecc Alte has focused solely on designing and manufacturing high-quality alternators for which it provides end-to-end solutions. We now have manufacturing facilities in Italy, India, the United Kingdom, and China. While we encourage collaboration with customers and suppliers, we are proud to be an independent company. In other words, we do not compete with our customers, as many other manufacturers do. We are the world’s largest independent supplier of industrial alternators and one of the world’s leading manufacturers of industrial alternators.
How do you meet the needs of electrical products in the domestic and industrial markets?
As a leading manufacturer of industrial alternators, we have consistently addressed our customers’ requirements through product modifications and innovations. Mecc Alte offers highly specialised products for niche segments in global markets as below:
Marine Power: We offer a complete range of alternators for huge and small vessels and pleasure. Our alternators carry all the necessary approvals that indicate product quality and reliability.
Hydro Power: Mecc Alte Hydro Power alternators are custom designed to match specific requirements and deliver highly reliable power.
Data Centres: The advanced digital Automatic Voltage Regulator and superior build specifications ensure that Mecc Alte alternators are highly suitable for supporting UPS systems and electrical systems. Mecc Alte
alternators are designed to provide both backup and primary power for data centres.
Aviation: Due to the high reliability of Mecc Alte 400Hz aircraft alternators from 5 to 200kVA, they are used in ground power units GPU where power supply is critical.
Lighting Towers: Mecc Alte provides a wide range of lighting towers, both for light duty and large-scale industrial Our single-phase capacitor-controlled alternators are DC Alternators or Permanent Magnet Alternators as per the demands of the application.
Mobile Power: Our portable alternators include a digital electronic regulator with an auxiliary to ensure that you receive consistent power.
Captive Power Generation: Mecc Alte Combined Heat and Power alternators are designed for very high
reliability and can generate heat and power simultaneously at optimum efficiency.
What are the market opportunities for MECCALTE in India?
In the Indian market, we have significant opportunities in all the segments mentioned earlier. From a manufacturing perspective, we are continuously moving towards higher HP alternators to cover India’s entire range of requirements. Our products are under consideration for use by the Indian Railways. We also perceive opportunities in alternators for agricultural applications and lighting towers. The drastic scale-up of medical infrastructure across India due to COVID-19 has created a requirement for gensets that need our alternators. Mecc Alte India has
played a pivotal role in supporting the same.
Mecc Alte has always been known for its highly efficient and costeffective industrial alternators. We have introduced the latest series of highly efficient alternators branded as C-Type, which is a step in the same direction. Our customers will also find superior value in the accessories we introduce shortly. In addition, our value-added alternator accessories will also provide our customers with a single-window service for all products related to alternators.
How do you strike a balance between cost-effectiveness and quality?
Workforce, raw materials, finance, process, logistics, and other costs all contribute to the cost of producing an alternator. Furthermore, product technology significantly impacts price, and Mecc Alte has been optimising product technology in accordance with market requirements. At the same time, we have always ensured that our quality is second to none. We also ensure that the design allows for simple and inexpensive after-sales service.
All essential raw materials, such as steel, copper, aluminium, and resin, have recently seen significant price increases worldwide. India continues to have one of the lowest labour costs in the world. The most critical parameters, however, are labour productivity and automation level. Despite our higher logistical costs, I believe that if we use the right automation and continuous productivity improvement techniques like TPM, Indian costs will be among the lowest in the world. This assists us in striking the proper balance between product quality and cost competitiveness.
What are the major technological trends influencing the electrical industry?
India’s electrical power generation industry is constantly looking for more efficient ways to generate power, as well as alternative energy sources that are both sustainable and environmentally friendly. Engine manufacturers are gearing up to investigate alternative fuels that can help reduce pollution levels. Alternators are also constantly improving and now include features such as superior voltage regulation (auto-tuning) and web-based online controls. MAVR, our next-generation digital voltage regulator, integrated with our controller, offers even more flexibility and smarter controls. Our online service support also serves customers in remote locations.
